North Charleston, SC - The Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that defenseman David Grimson has signed with the team and defenseman Josh Godfrey has been reassigned by Hershey. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Grimson, 25, returns to the Stingrays after skating in eight regular season games last year. The Moazrt, SASK native scored one goal and added two assists for three points. Grimson joined South Carolina after completing his senior season at Sacred Heart University.

"Dave is a solid defenseman that can play in all situations," said Stingrays Head Coach Cail Maclean. "After a great career at Sacred Heart and his contributions with the Rays last season, we are excited to have him back."

With the Pioneers, the 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed rookie tallied 74 points (16g, 58a) in 137 games. Grimson also played two seasons of junior hockey with the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Godfrey, 21, dressed in 37 games last season for South Carolina acquiring five goals and 20 assists for 25 points. The Collingwood, ONT native also appeared in six postseason contests adding four points (1g, 3a) as the Stingrays claimed their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup title.

"Josh's offensive skill and skating ability are second to none," said MacLean. "With a year of professional hockey under his belt, we expect him to take his game to a whole new level this season."

The 34th overall draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2007, Godfrey saw time last year with the AHL's Hershey Bears contributing six assists in 13 games. Prior to turning pro, Godfrey spent four seasons in the OHL starring for Guelph and Sault St. Marie. With the Greyhounds, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman punched in 119 points (47g, 72a) in 158 games.
