Carolina Assigns Nine To Albany

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that the club has been assigned nine players by the parent Carolina Hurricanes and will open training camp on Wednesday, September 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at RPI's Houston Field House.

Forwards Mike Angelidis, Nicolas Blanchard, Nick Dodge, Jerome Samson and Chris Terry, along with defensemen Zack Fitzgerald, Jonathan Paiement and Brett Bellemore and goaltender Mike Murphy have all been assigned to Albany. They'll join forwards Stefan Chaput, Robert Hennigar, Matthew Pistilli and Harrison Reed as players attending River Rats training camp under two-way NHL/AHL contracts.

Forward Jacob Micflikier and defenseman Benn Olson will attend camp with AHL deals, while forward Brad Herauf and goaltender Mike Morrison will skate under two-way AHL/ECHL contracts. Training camp invitees Milan Gajic and Elgin Reid round out Albany's group, which currently totals nineteen skaters.

Forward Matt Kennedy, Carolina's 5th round selection (131st overall) in the 2009 NHL entry draft, has been returned to his junior team, the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

The River Rats are hosting the first "Rats Fest" prior to their September 26th pre-season home game against the Adirondack Phantoms. Entry to both the 2:00 p.m. festival and the 5:00 p.m. contest is free to the general public. Albany is set to open its 17th season in the American Hockey League against the Manchester Monarchs at the Times Union Center on October 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 season and flex ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
