San Antonio Missions News Release
Game One:
Springfield made sure early that there would be no shot at a no-hitter Friday night. After Cory Luebke shut the Cardinals down in order through the first three innings, Springfield exploded for six runs over the next three frames to take a 6-3 victory in game one of the twi-night doubleheader at Wolff Stadium Friday night.
Luebke (2-1) looked sharp early, setting down the first nine he faced, but came apart after that point. After a leadoff walk to Jim Rapoport in the fourth, Colt Sedbrook, who broke up Ernesto Frieri's no-hit bid the night before, notched the first hit of the evening again, following with a single. One out later, Andrew Brown split the gap in left-center to drive in both runners, giving Springfield a lead they would not relinquish.
The Cardinals added a run in the fifth and put the game away with three in the sixth. Luebke finished his five innings of work with five earned on five hits and three walks, striking out three. He allowed five of the final eight batters he faced to reach base, with three of them scoring.
Cardinals' starter Lance Lynn could not complete the requisite five innings to earn the victory, finishing with two earned on four hits and five walks over 4.2 innings pitched. Reliever Tyler Norrick (3-1), who took the loss Thursday night, picked up the win after retiring just one batter to end the fifth.
Brown and Donovan Solano both notched multi-hit and multi-RBI games for the Cardinals. Brown went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI. Meanwhile, Solano finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Anthony Contreras had the lone multi-hit game for the home side, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Two Missions reached base three times without a hit. Sawyer Carroll walked three times and Craig Cooper walked twice and was hit by a pitch.

Game Two:
For the second time in the three-game series, the Missions needed extra innings to finally put away Springfield. After blowing another lead with one out to go, Cedric Hunter's bases-loaded single plated Logan Forsythe with the game-winner to lead San Antonio to a 3-2, 10-inning victory to split the twin-bill and take the rubber-match of the series.
With runners at second and third and two outs in the top of the seventh, Carlos Guevara threw a wild pitch past Michael Collins to the screen, allowing Springfield to tie the game. When Anthony Contreras was gunned down trying to score from second on Logan Forsythe's two-out single in the bottom half, the game headed to extra innings.
For the seventh time in their last 14 home games, the Missions needed extra innings to settle the contest. In six of those seven, the Missions had their opponents down to the final out before relinquishing the lead, and in three of those six San Antonio had the potential winning run thrown out at the plate.
Contreras got his revenge, however, taking the mound in the top of the tenth and tossing a perfect inning of relief to earn his first win. It was the utility man's fifth relief appearance of the year and his first decision.
Matt Buschmann made an excellent spot start, working 5.0 innings of one-run, four-hit ball and left with the lead, but would not factor in the decision.
Forsythe logged the lone multi-hit game for the Missions, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
W: Contreras (1-0); L: Gonzalez (0-4); S: None; HR: None
