Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Corpus Christi struck for three runs in the fifth en route to a 6-2 win over Arkansas Friday at Whataburger Field before 6,682.

The Hooks are 21-26 in second-half Texas League play after taking the series two games to one. Arkansas is 19-27.

Hitters 4, 5 and 6 produced run-scoring outcomes during the frame. Jason Castro worked a bases-loaded walk, Jimmy Van Ostrand stroked an RBI single to right and German Duran bounced into a double play as the Hooks extended their lead to 6-2.

Peter Bourjos dropped a lead-off bunt hit to get the ball rolling for Arkansas in the first. He swiped second and scored on a single to left by Nate Sutton, who later raced home on the front end of a double steal, with Mark Trumbo executing on the back side.

Two innings later, the Hooks used a combination of power, small ball and scrap to knot the game at 2. Jonathan Fixler opened with a double to left and after a walk to Nick Moresi, both runners moved up a base when Wladimir Sutil laid down a sacrifice bunt. Aaron Boone's ground out plated Fixler and Moresi sprinted home on a two-out, 0-2 wild pitch by Trevor Reckling.

Ray Sadler's two-out double and Fixler's RBI single up the middle gave Corpus Christi a 3-2 advantage through four.

Hooks starter Kenny Baugh (4-2) left with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth. Tyler Lumsden slammed the door by getting Ryan Mount to bounce to second. Baugh was responsible for four hits, an earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. He retired a dozen consecutive batters from the first to fifth.

Reckling (7-5) left after five innings, six hits, four earned runs, four walks and five Ks.

The Springfield Cardinals visit Corpus Christi Saturday through Monday. Sergio Perez (8-10) takes the ball at 7:05 tomorrow against Brandon Dickson (7-8)

It's Football Kickoff Night with $8 reserved seats and $2 GA for fans in high school, college or NFL apparel. Gates open at 5:30 with a pregame party in Kieschnick's Korner.
