CHARLESTON, SC - Lexington's Jordan Lyles struck out eight as the native South Carolinian returned home and silenced Charleston's bats in leading the Legends to an 11-0 shutout victory over the RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action Friday night in front of 5,462 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The 18-year old righty from Hartsville, who declined a scholarship to the University of South Carolina, picked up his sixth victory against nine losses after he held the RiverDogs scoreless for six full stanzas while scattering three hits and two walks and striking out eight. He faced a total of 23 RiverDogs and recorded seven groundouts and three flyouts.

After playing six minutes of the first inning the game was delayed for 58 minutes due to rain.

With the victory, the Legends capture the first game of the series and improve their second half record to 15-18 (51-52 overall) while the RiverDogs fall to 14-20 in the second half (53-51 overall). The 11-run loss marked the largest deficit the RiverDogs recorded this season.

Lexington hammered its way to a 3-0 advantage in the fourth when Brandon Wikoff lined a single, stole second and trotted home on Brian Pellegrini's 18th home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall on a 3-2 pitch that came off Charleston starter Jairo Heredia. Michael Diaz added a single, sprinted to third on Andrew Simunic's single and scored on a fielder's choice by Chris Jackson.

The Legends added to their lead in the fifth when Albert Cartwright singled to left and stole second. Brandon Wikoff slapped a RBI single to make the score 4-0.

Lexington extended its advantage to 7-0 in the seventh on a RBI single by Jay Austin and a two-run single by Wikoff.

The Legends added three runs in the eighth to make the score 10-0 when Austin slapped a two-run single and Cartwright lined a RBI single. Lexington's final tally came in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Federico Hernandez.

Heredia (0-1) suffered the defeat after he was charged with three earned runs on four hits and two walks in 3.1 frames. Charleston manager Torre Tyson inserted Andrew Brackman, normally a starter, in the sixth for his first relief appearance and the 6-10 right-hander faced four Legends and walked only one in the scoreless frame.

Lexington accumulated 14 hits on the night with Wikoff leading the way with four knocks while Charleston, which was limited to only three hits, got a pair from Ray Kruml.

In Game 2 of the four-game set that is slated for 7:05 p.m. Saturday, the Legends will start southpaw Brad Dydalewicz (5-4, 3.38 ERA) while Tyson has yet to announce his starter.
