Saints to Give Away Commemorative "Moonwalkers" on August 28

St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 24, 2009) - In the past two weeks, our nation has celebrated both the 40th Anniversary of man landing on the moon and the life of one of the greatest pop artists of all time. The St. Paul Saints will commemorate these two major cultural events by handing out wind-up Moonwalkers prior to their August 28 game at Midway Stadium.

This "thriller" of a giveaway goes to the first 2,500 fans in attendance and is in the shape of a crescent moon, complete with craters, along with feet on the bottom for one special function: so the moon can walk. Turn on your favorite pop song, wind-up the doll, "get on the floor" and watch as the Saints Moonwalker slides his feet and doesn't stop ‘til he gets enough.

The moon landing of July 20, 1969 is one of those events that people remember where they were when it happened. It put the U.S. at the forefront of the space race. Neil Armstrong's steps and words uttered upon landing on the moon made him and the other members of the Apollo 11 crew (Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins) a part of history.

The Saints will relive that history and celebrate the music of Michael Jackson with the Moonwalker character which comes clad with a fedora hat, "bad" shades and one white, sequined glove.

"Our fans always tell us to shoot for the moon and I think we've done that," said Saints owner and President Mike Veeck. "Whether you're black or white, the man in the mirror, or a smooth criminal, this is a great way to celebrate two historic moon walks."

The Moonwalker is the latest in a long line or memorable Saints giveaways including the Al Franken/Norm Coleman "Re"Count Dolls (2009), the Bobblefoot Giveaway in honor of National Tap Dance Day (2008), Michael Vick Dog Chew Toys (2007), Purple and Gold Love Boats (2006) and Bud Selig Ties (2002).

The Saints take on the Sioux City Explorers on August 28 and gates open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:05 p.m. contest. Fans can purchase tickets for that game or any remaining Saints home game by coming to the ticket office, contacting the Saints at 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.com.
