ST. PAUL, MN - We've gotten through the April showers portion of the season, now let's pace ourselves for the May flowers and the rest of the summer. Our passion for our fans really moves us when we put together our promotional calendar. The holy grail of promotions occurs this week and we'll be forever grateful if you join us for our May 6-11 homestand.
Tuesday, May 6 vs. Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays), 6:37 p.m. - Larry Doby Passion for the Community Night
The history of Larry Doby is not only important to Major League Baseball, but it is especially important to former Saints owner and President, Mike Veeck. His father, Bill, signed Doby as the first African American to play in the American League with the Cleveland Indians. The Saints will always make this an annual tradition, so come out and learn the history celebrating Larry Doby Passion for the Community. The Saints and Bisons will wear special Negro League jerseys to commemorate the occasion. The Saints will be clad in the uniforms of the Newark Eagles, the same team that Doby guided to the 1946 Negro League Championship. The Bisons will wear uniforms of the Homestead Grays, the team Josh Gibson played for during his storied career. Doby will be honored throughout the night with games, facts, and a historical perspective of African Americans in the National Pastime. Doby was signed to his first Major League contract in 1947 by Bill Veeck, father of Saints President Mike Veeck. Though he never played for the Saints, the club elected to retire Doby's number 14 during the 2005 season. Head to some of the places Larry Doby played on a Sun Country Travel Tuesday.
Wednesday, May 7 vs. Buffalo Bisons, 6:37 p.m. - 50th Anniversary of Hmong In Minnesota presented by St. Paul College
Approximately 70,000 Hmong live in Minnesota, the second largest population in any state, only behind California. In late 1975, following the Communist takeover in Laos and Vietnam, Hmong refugees began arriving in Minnesota. On the 50th anniversary of Hmong coming to Minnesota, presented by St. Paul College, we celebrate the traditions, customs, and culinary delights. The first Hmong family, Dang Her and his wife Shoua Moua, arrived on November 5, 1975. Hmong culture is rich with traditions surrounding birth, marriage, death, and daily life. These traditions include respect for elders, family, and the spirit world, as well as unique customs like traditional clothing, music, and food preparations. Visit the areas in Minnesota that the Hmong call home during an Explore Minnesota Wednesday.
Thursday, May 8 vs. Buffalo Bisons, 6:37 p.m. - Two Men and a Truck Movers For Moms Campaign, Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence
There are two sides to the Saints. One side is our playful, fun, and irreverent side. The other focuses on the community. When a partner aligns with our values a truly magical day comes together. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence more than 33% of women in Minnesota experience intimate partner domestic violence, intimate partner rape, and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetime. Since 2008 one organization has made it a priority to bring awareness to this cause and they are teaming up with the St. Paul Saints for the Two Men and a Truck Movers For Moms Campaign, Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence. Two Men and a Truck locations team up with local organizations such as schools, stores, banks, and more in their community to setup collection sites for essential care items needed by their recipient shelters. Using their specialized Movers for Moms boxes, collection sites are set up around the community and events are held to encourage the donation of these items. When Saints fans donate a new, unused household item to the game on May 8, they will receive free admission to this game. Two Men and a Truck will have a moving truck on Broadway St. collecting donation items and distributing free tickets. It's that simple and it's for a worthy cause.
Friday, May 9 vs. Buffalo Bisons, 6:37 p.m. - Bring Out Your Dead. Friday Night Fireworks Powered by Xcel Energy Featuring music from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Our Other Favorite Bands Who Helped Fund "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" Brought To You By SPAM with SPAM T-Shirt Giveaway
CHS Field is turning into a medieval riot of absurdity. Fans will bang coconuts, mimicking galloping knights, while shouting "Ni" when they disagree with a call on the field. Should a batter get hit by a pitch the crowd will shout, "It's just a flesh wound." The hilarity will ensue as we celebrate Monty Python and the Holy Grail presented by SPAM. Don't worry if we're down late because We're Not Dead Yet. Saints' pitchers will look to Bring Out the Dead by striking out as many Bisons hitters as possible. There will be "shrubbery" salads and "SPAM" sandwiches galore (no, seriously, concession stands will be serving SPAM themed food). We'll have Monty Python and Holy Grail characters interacting with fans along with Spammy and Sir-Spam-A-Lot. A limited number of SPAM t-shirts will be handed out at the gate. Stick around after the game for our Friday Night Fireworks powered by Xcel Energy to the music of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and other bands synonymous with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Saturday, May 10 vs. Buffalo Bisons, 2:07 p.m. - Forever A Saint featuring Brooks Lee Bobblehead (1,500) presented by CHS
He played for his Dad, Larry, at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was originally going to be named after Larry's favorite player growing up, Lou Brock. But if you name a kid with the last name Lee, Brock, well it just doesn't go well together. Then, his Dad thought why not name him Major? But Major Lee was too cheesy. So, Larry decided to go with his next favorite player, Brooks Robinson and thus was born Brooks Thomas Lee. The 8th overall pick in the 2019 draft by the Minnesota Twins played 63 games with the Saints between 2023 and 2024 and hit .266 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI. He comes back today...in bobblehead form as the first 1,500 fans receive a Brooks Lee bobblehead presented by CHS. Brooks is a cool customer so he'd appreciate a tropical feel on a Treasure Island Saturday.
Sunday, May 11 vs. Buffalo Bisons, 2:07 p.m. - Sunday Runday with Seigo Masabuchi Running His Second CHS Field Marathon
On May 9, 2022 Saints ushertainer Seigo Masabuchi ran 26.2 miles around CHS Field, a full 84 laps around the concourse. It was his 91st marathon, but his first since being hospitalized in 2021 with COVID-19. While recovering from the virus, he was hospitalized a second time with heart issues. The remarkable story comes back to life this season as Seigo puts on his running shoes for a Sunday Funday with Seigo. He will once again raise money for a charity and fans can pay to run one of the 84 laps with Seigo. Fans will have the chance to run a lap with Seigo, and receive a t-shirt, by signing up on the day of the game with the money going towards St. Judes. Those running will also receive a t-shirt in Japanese script, Katakana. After Seigo runs his marathon kids can head down to the field after the game and run the bases on a Cub Family Sunday.
