Drive Take Advantage of Early Walks for 4-1 Win

Hagerstown, MD - The Drive (48-39, 9-10) did all of their scoring over a two-inning span Wednesday, and it was all they needed to defeat the Hagerstown Suns (37-50, 6-14) 4-1 at Municipal Stadium.

A three-run second inning, kicked off Greenville's scoring, but what was more astonishing about the frame was that they never recorded a hit. Suns' All-Star pitcher Marcos Frias (5-3) issued back-to-back walks to Kade Keowen and Mitch Dening to lead off the inning.

The right-hander than plunked consecutive batters - Oscar Tejeda and Jon Hee - for the Drive's first run. Pete Hissey then tallied a run-scoring groundout and Tejeda later scored on a wild pitch.

An inning later, the Drive utilized three hits, all with two outs, to plate their final run of the game. Keowen, Dening, and Tejeda hit three straight singles with Tejeda collecting an RBI-single.

Just like Frias, Drive starter Fabian Williamson also experienced control issues. However, the southpaw was able to work around five walks by not allowing any hits in three-plus innings before being relieved by Jeremy Kehrt (1-0).

In his first appearance since joining the Drive on July 13th, Kehrt worked 4-1/3 strong innings from the ‘pen, allowing four hits and two walks while fanning four. The right-hander surrendered the Suns only run in the bottom of the seventh on Chris Curran's RBI-single.

Felix Ventura was perfect over the final 1-2/3 innings, striking out one, to earn his seventh save of the season.

The Drive and Suns closeout their four-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM at Municipal Stadium. Right-hander Stolmy Pimentel (8-3, 2.66 ERA) will toe the rubber for Greenville as they search for their second series victory of the second half of the regular season.

The Drive return home from their northern trek on Wednesday, July 22nd when the begin an eight-game homestand at Fluor Field. Greenville "Pitches In" kicks-off the homestand as anyone can come to Fluor Field beginning at 6 AM to throw out a first pitch.
