Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, S.C. - Several attendance records fell at Fluor Field this weekend, as the Greenville Drive drew 19,424 fans between the games played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The three-day total was the largest ever in the team's four-year history at Fluor Field, which concluded with the largest single-game attendance on Sunday of 7,129 fans.
Drive Co-Owner and Team President, Craig Brown, commented on the record breaking weekend, saying, "The support of Greenville Drive baseball and the Fluor Field experience across the Upstate has been tremendous and we are very grateful for the continuing support of our loyal fans. We are working very hard to provide a top notch fan experience that is both family friendly and value oriented. There is no doubt that the appearance of fan favorite, John Smoltz, was the major factor in setting the single game attendance record on Sunday but the balance of the weekend was just as successful. With the school year drawing to a close we are excited about the summer that lies ahead and have our sights set on another year of record attendance at Fluor Field."
Through the first 23 home games at Fluor Field this season, the Drive are averaging 4,864 fans per game, which is ahead of last season's recording setting pace. Saturday's attendance of 6,404 fans ranks as the seventh largest crowd at Fluor Field.
"The 2009 season has been a huge success to this point both on and off the field," added Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "We've continued to draw extremely well and with only three weeks left in the first half of the regular season, the Drive are just two games out of first place as they seek their first Southern Division pennant. Our team is filled with top prospects from within the Red Sox organization and it's our objective to continue our attendance record, so we encourage our fans to come out and cheer for our players and help us reach our goal."
