Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Delmarva jumped out to an early lead off of Dexter Carter and the Intimidators on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. It did not last long.

Kannapolis scored nine runs over the first two innings against Richard Zagone to snatch a 10-3 victory. The 10-run output was the most of the season for the Intimidators (25-26).

Jon Gilmore punctuated the nine-run stretch with a two run home run with two outs in the bottom of the second. Kannapolis got four runs in the first inning off of the Delmarva southpaw and scored five more in the second, as Gilmore drove in four in the first two frames.

Zagone (4-4), who came into the game with the third best ERA in the league at 1.92, lasted just two innings giving up nine earned runs.

Delmarva (26-21) had taken a 2-0 lead against Carter (2-2) in the top of the first on three extra base hits, but could never recover from the big blow early. Carter allowed three earned runs while matching his season high of seven innings pitched. Already the strikeout leader in the South Atlantic League, Carter struck out seven, including the last six batters that he faced.

Brandon Short and Tyler Kuhn each had a pair of hits to power the offensive production. They also each notched a pair of RBIs.

Charlie Burdie and Tyson Corley both pitched one inning of relief without allowing a run.
