Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Savannah Sand Gnats batters came out swinging Wednesday afternoon at Fluor Field, collecting 17 hits en route to an 11-7 victory over the Drive. With the loss, Greenville fell back into a tie for first place with the Charleston RiverDogs.
Yeiper Castillo (0-2) experience problems from the onset as the Sand Gnats sent all nine batters in the leadoff inning. Josh Satin, Scott Ratliff, and Raul Reyes each tallied RBI-singles in the three-run inning.
The right-hander did not fare any better in the third, as he was tagged for four more runs - only one was earned - before exiting. Eight Savannah batters came to the plate and they only needed two hits while the Drive committed a pair of errors to fuel the fire. Rafael Fernandez was the only batter to record an RBI with a hit when he singled with two outs.
After the Sand Gnats added a run in the seventh and eighth innings, the Drive pulled within three runs with a four-run eighth. Greenville batted around, tallying four hits in the inning, highlighted by Mitch Dening's RBI-double, which capped his 3-for-5 performance.
With his one-out single in the eighth, Anthony Rizzo extended his season-high hitting streak to a South Atlantic League-best 12 games.
Robert Carson (2-2) earned the win for the Sand Gnats, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
The Drive and Sand Gnats continue their four-game series on Thursday night with first pitch set for 7 PM at Fluor Field. Right-hander Brock Huntzinger will toe the slab for Greenville, as Savannah counters with right-hander Eric Beaulac.
Thursday is also Dollar Drink Night at Fluor Field, where fans can purchase 12-ounce Pepsi products at any of the concession stands, or fans 21-years-of-age or older can head to the Spinx 500 Club for draft specials.
