MEMPHIS, TN - The Redbirds jumped on Nashville in the first two innings and held on to win 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

Memphis scored twice in the first inning thanks to four hits. Shane Robinson led off with a single and scored on Nick Stavinoha's double to left field. One batter later David Freese's single to left brought home Stavinoha and gave the 'Birds a two-run lead. Matt Pagnozzi tacked on another run in the second with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left. Nashville narrowed the lead to two runs in the fifth when Carlos Corporan drove in Adam Heether, who led the Sounds with three hits.

Redbirds starter Brad Thompson was solid through five innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts for his second win in as many starts. Jess Todd struck out three of the four batters he faced to notch his third save of the year. Nashville starter Nick Green took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

The 'Birds and Sounds play tomorrow night with Blake Hawksworth scheduled to start for the home team against Nashville right-hander Tim Dillard. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
