Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - For the second time this season, the Express (4-10) is riding a four-game losing streak after an 8-3 loss to New Orleans (6-8) Wednesday night.
The Zephyrs struck first for the second night in a row, as outfielder Michael Ryan ripped a home run to center field just beyond the outstretched glove of Round Rock center fielder Brian Bogusevic, giving New Orleans a 1-0 lead after two innings.
Round Rock evened things up in the third inning when Bogusevic reached with one out on a bunt single, moved to third on a single by Tommy Manzella and scored on a dropped fly ball by New Orleans shortstop Andy Gonzalez.
The Zephyrs pulled away in the fourth inning, sparked by a monster leadoff home run by John Lindsey that hit just below the scoreboard in left center field. Ryan followed with a single up the middle, Jai Miller walked and Gonzalez doubled to right field, atoning for the dropped fly ball and scoring both Ryan and Miller to extend the lead to 4-1.
New Orleans doubled its lead by the time Round Rock added to its run total. Down 8-1, the Express rally started rolling with one out, when Eli Iorg singled through the hole at shortstop. Yordany Ramirez singled to left-center field, but Bogusevic hit into a fielder's choice to put runners at first and third with two outs. Manzella walked to load the bases, and John Gall singled to bring home Iorg and Bogusevic, making it 8-3. The Express had another shot at a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth, but Bogusevic struck out with the bases loaded.
Gall extended his home on-base streak to 10 games, while Ramirez extended his home hitting streak to six games in the loss.
Matt Kata, Iorg, Gall and Manzella all had two hits for Round Rock, as the Express had just two fewer hits than the Zephyrs, despite the five-run loss.
Josh Muecke was tagged with his second loss of the season, allowing four runs on seven hits in 4.1 IP, walking three and striking out four, and surrendering two homers.
Round Rock tries to right the ship and avoid the longest losing streak of the season Thursday night at home against New Orleans, down 2-0 in the four-game series. Express RHP Bud Norris takes the mound at 7:05 p.m., and he'll go up against New Orleans RHP Daniel Barone.
