Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds return home to Greer Stadium this Saturday, April 25 to open an eight-game homestand, during which they'll host series against the American Northern Division rival Iowa Cubs (AAA-Cubs) and Omaha Royals (AAA-Royals) after returning from an eight-day road trip.
Highlighting the week's worth of promotions will be three post-game fireworks shows as well as five Reading Clubs Days that will feature stands packed with area schoolchildren in attendance as a reward for reaching their reading goals as part of the Sounds Reading Club program.
The 2008 American Northern Division Champion Iowa Cubs will travel to Greer for the first time this season to face the Sounds for Saturday's 6:00 p.m. homestand opener. This will be Sounds Reading Club Day, as participating students will receive free admission to the game, as well as the chance to take part in an on-field, pre-game parade with Ozzie. A dazzling fireworks display will immediately follow the game.
Sunday's afternoon game will be at 2:00 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. It will be a Purity Sundae Sunday with $1 ice cream sundaes available at Greer Stadium. Also it's Lance Family Sunday, where fans have the opportunity to receive two tickets for the price of one. This will also be the second of five Reading Club Days of the homestand.
Monday's 6:00 p.m. game will be the third game of the series with the Cubs, as the Sounds went 4-12 against Iowa last season. Monday is Red Hot Chicago Dollar Dog Night, when hot dogs are only $1 at concession stands.
The final game of the series with the Cubs will take place on Monday during an 11:00 a.m. morning game at Greer Stadium, as thousands of screaming kids will be in attendance for another Reading Club Day. With more than 120,000 students from over 400 different schools enrolled in the program, it should be an exciting day at the ballpark. All students will be eligible to win prizes if they have reached "home plate" in the program. Tuesday is also Tunica Tuesday. Gates open at 9:30 a.m.
After an off day on Wednesday, another American Northern Division rival will visit Greer on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., as the Omaha Royals take on the Sounds to open a four-game series. The Royals split last season's series with the Sounds, 8-8, and have also split the all-time series, 176-176. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Friday night's game will offer another chance for kids to win prizes, as it's the third Reading Club Day of the homestand. As with all Reading Club Days, students will have the chance to participate in an on-field, pre-game parade with Ozzie. An amazing fireworks display will immediately follow the game. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
The third game of the series between the Royals and Sounds will take place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. This will be another Reading Club Day at Greer Stadium. As always on Saturdays, an incredible fireworks display will immediately follow the game.
The Sounds wrap up their eight-game homestand with the series finale against Omaha at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Along with being a Purity Sundae and Lance Family Sunday, a pre-game autograph session will take place on field with members of the Sounds team and coaching staff. It will also be Teacher Appreciation Day, as all teachers, school staff, and administrators presenting a school ID (or school pay stub) at the box office will receive up to four free tickets for the game.
Following the homestand, Nashville will travel to Iowa and Omaha for an eight-day road trip before returning to Greer Stadium on May 12 for a pair of four-game series against the Reno Aces and Las Vegas 51s.
Individual and season tickets, as well as group packages, are currently on sale. Call (615) 242-4371 ext. 2 or visit the Sounds' website at www.nashvillesounds.com to order or for more information.
