Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Eric Patterson had an RBI triple and was one of three Sacramento batters to hit a solo home run as the River Cats defeated the Portland Beavers 4-2 Tuesday night at PGE Park.
Will Venable clubbed two solo homers to lead the Beavers (8-5), who had a four-game winning streak come to an end.
James Simmons (1-0) gave up two runs and six hits across six innings to get the win for the River Cats (7-6), who are 4-1 against Portland this season. Chris Schroder retired the side in order in the ninth for the save, his first of the year.
Solo home runs by Sean Doolittle, Eric Munson and Patterson had the River Cats up 3-1 after three innings.
Venable got Portland to within 3-2 by hitting his second home run of the game in the fourth, but Gregorio Petit doubled and scored on Patterson's triple in the seventh to up Sacramento's lead to two runs.
Matt Buschmann (1-1) struck out six over four innings in his first home start for the Beavers, but he allowed the three solo home runs while taking his first loss at the Triple-A level.
The Beavers will once again entertain the River Cats Wednesday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
