Angels Assign Salmon to Salt Lake, Leon Reassigned to Rancho

SALT LAKE CITY (April 22, 2009) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Brad Salmon to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. In other movement, the Salt Lake Bees have reassigned right-handed pitcher Sammy Leon to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Salmon, 29, spent spring training with the Chicago White Sox organization. He appeared in 47 games with the Triple-A Omaha Royals in 2008, owning an 8-7 record with a 4.62 ERA. The Pensacola, Fla. native was originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st round of the 1999 draft.

Leon, 23, appeared in one game for the Bees in 2009, pitching two innings of relief with three strikeouts. He has appeared in four games for Rancho Cucamonga this season, owning a 1-1 record with a 1.59 ERA. The native of the Dominican Republic signed with the Angels as a free agent on March 21, 2003.
