Iowa Cubs News Release

Randy Wells had a no-hitter going through 6.2 innings Wednesday afternoon as the Iowa Cubs trounced the Albuquerque Isotopes 9-1 at Principal Park.

Wells faced the minimum through five innings, issuing no hits while allowing just two walks. He issued a walk to Valentino Pascucci in the second inning but Dee Brown hit into a double play to force out Pascucci.

Brad Snyder set the pace for the Iowa offense, hitting two home runs in the game. His first was in the first inning. The Cubs took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning as Sam Fuld led off the game with a double and the team batted around. Nate Spears walked and Doug Deeds drove in Fuld and Spears for the first runs of the game. With two men on, Snyder launched his first homer of the game, and his third of the year, to left field, for a 4-0 Iowa advantage. Two batters later Bobby Scales hit a solo homer to put Iowa ahead 5-0.

Shortstop Andres Blanco added to Iowa's offense in the fourth inning when he hit a home run for Iowa, for a 6-0 lead.

In the eighth inning Snyder hit his second home run in the game, a three-run shot for the 9-1 final. Snyder was 2-for-4 with five runs batted in. Fuld, Deeds, and Scales also tallied two hits in the game, while Blanco went 3-for-4.

Albuquerque did not get on the board until the ninth inning when Luis Maza singled and was driven in on Xavier Paul's RBI fielder's choice. Three Iowa pitchers held the Isotopes to four hits while striking out six.

Wells improved to 2-0 with today's victory while Albuquerque's Charlie Haeger (1-2) was tagged with the loss.
