HERSHEY - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that forward Alexandre Giroux has been named the CCM AHL Player of the Month for January. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Giroux, 27, enjoyed an unforgettable month in which he set an American Hockey League record by scoring a goal in 15 consecutive games, a mark that had stood for over 20 years and was held by NHL legend Brett Hull. He also set a HERSHEY record by notching a point in 23 straight games, eclipsing the record set by Wes Jarvis during the 1981-82 campaign. In all, Giroux scored 18 goals and assisted on nine others for 27 points during the month. He is currently ranked second in the AHL in scoring, and became just the second BEARS player since 1992 to score four goals in a single game on January 4 at Worcester.

A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Giroux has also played in 11 games for the Washington Capitals this season. In honor of his achievement, Giroux will receive an etched crystal award, which will be presented at an upcoming BEARS home game.

Giroux's award marks the second time in 2008-09 that a HERSHEY player has been named CCM AHL Player of the Month. Center Keith Aucoin took home the honor for the month of October. The BEARS have the league's best win total (33), point total (70) and winning percentage (.714) as the month of February begins.

After a road game in Philadelphia Friday, the BEARS welcome the San Antonio Rampage to GIANT Center Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
