JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (60-71, 27-34) rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to overtake the Birmingham Barons (71-59, 31-29) for a 3-2 victory Saturday night in front of 3,308 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The game started 25 minutes late after rain showers from the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay hit downtown Jacksonville.

Birmingham opened the scoring in the third inning when Jared Price hit a leadoff homerun off Suns starter Danny Muegge. Later in the third, Miguel Negron drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville's offense struggled against Birmingham starter Kyle McCulloch as he scattered four hits and four walks over six innings of work.

The Suns finally broke through against Birmingham reliever Jon Link (5-3) in the eighth inning. After reliever Brian Omogrosso allowed an infield single with two out, Link entered to walk a batter before allowing an Adolfo Gonzalez single for a 2-1 score. After another walk, Kelley Gulledge blooped a single to center to score both Juan and Adolfo Gonzalez to open a 3-2 Jacksonville lead.

Jacksonville reliever Scott Elbert (4-1) picked up the win, pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Jacobo Meque (5) saved the game with a perfect ninth.

Suns LH Eric DuBose will face Barons LH Aaron Poreda Sunday at 5:05 p.m. ET in game two at the Baseball Grounds. Sunday is David Garrard night, as the first 1,500 will receive autographed miniature footballs, sponsored by Florida Telco Credit Union, CBS 47 and WOKV. The Suns will also wear special teal football-style jerseys that will be auctioned during the game for charity. Tickets are available through the Suns box office at (904) 358-2846 or by visiting jaxsuns.com.
