Jackson Generals News Release
(Jackson, TN) Greg Halman hit a tie-breaking two run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx a thrilling 10-7 win over the Montgomery Biscuits before a Saturday night crowd of 4,003 at Pringles Park. The win was the first of the year at the Big Chip against Montgomery.
After Montgomery scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at seven, the Diamond Jaxx went to work in the bottom of the inning. Adam Moore led off the inning with a single to left and Halman stepped up to the plate and hit a high, majestic home run just inside the sixteen foot high wall in left-center field to give the Diamond Jaxx a 9-7 lead. The Jaxx added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Mike Wilson scored from first base on a Moore base-hit and fielding error by Biscuits LF Erold Andrus.
Doug Fister picked up the win in relief of Joe Woerman. Fister (6-14) allowed no runs on one hit with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Woerman looked like he was going to cruise to the win, having given up two un-earned runs on just three hits thru six innings of work. But the right-hander allowed the first five runners to reach base in the seventh inning and all five Biscuits runners went on to score, giving Woerman a no-decision on the night.
Noah Hall went 4-5 with a RBI and a run scored to help lead the Diamond Jaxx eighteen hit attack. Halman and Mark Kiger had two hits and two RBI's each, while Adam Moore chipped in with three hits and two runs scored. Mike Wilson also made history for the Diamond Jaxx by breaking the all-time Diamond Jaxx record for most home runs hit in a season. Wilson hit his 27th dinger of the year in the first inning, breaking the mark of 26 homers previously held by Brandon Sing.
Colter Bean suffered the loss for Montgomery, dropping his record to 3-5 on the season. Bean allowed two runs on five hits in just 1 1/3 innings of relief. Rhyne Hughes had two hits and two RBI's to help lead the Biscuits seven hit attack.
Game two of the five game series is set for Sunday afternoon at 4:35 CDT. Right-hander Tracy Thorpe (1-1 3.86) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Montgomery will counter with right-hander Heath Rollins (0-1 2.57).
