Rock Cats falter against Fisher Cats

New Britain, CT - New Hampshire's Scott Richmond fired seven impressive innings and the bullpen held off a late comeback by the Rock Cats as the Fisher Cats won 4-2 at New Britain Stadium.

Richmond (5-8, 4.92) limited the Rock Cats to one run on three hits. He struck out five.

New Hampshire jumped on Rock Cats starter Kyle Aselton in the second inning. Jacob Butler and Ryan Patterson led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Aselton then walked Scott Campbell to load the bases. Eric Nielsen delivered a two-run single to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead. Aselton came back to strike out the next two batters before allowing an RBI single by Aaron Matthews.

The Fisher Cats struck again in the fourth inning. Campbell drew a leadoff walk, but was thrown out at home on a double by Nielsen (3-4). Ryan Klosterman's single scored Nielsen to put the Fisher Cats ahead, 4-0.

Dustin Martin put the Rock Cats on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single.

The Rock Cats made a late run in the ninth. Erik Lis walked to start off the inning. Danny Valencia - in his first game at New Britain Stadium since being promoted from Single-A - singled. David Winfree knocked in Lis with a single to left field before Zachary Dials recorded the final two outs of the ninth to pick up his tenth save.

Aselton (3-2, 5.03) lasted five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out seven. The bullpen did its part to keep the Rock Cats in the game - Frank Mata, Armando Gabino, and Robert Delaney combined for four shutout innings in relief.
