SIOUX CITY, IA -- The Explorers outhit the league's leading offense 10-9 putting 5 runs on the board in the 3rd and the Sioux City bullpen led by Brett Reid pitched 4 scoreless innings of relief to finish off Sioux Falls 8-5 on a beautiful evening at Lewis & Clark Park on Friday night.

Sam Walker started the third inning with a leadoff walk from Canaries starter Ryan Ford. After Walker stole 2nd, Derek Schermerhorn hit a RBI double to score Walker. That hit broke a 0 for 17 string with runners in scoring position. Sioux City was not done. Jason Tuttle would walk and Nick McCoola sacrificed the runners over. After Anton French struck out, Chris Grossman singled to left center to score 2 runs and make it 3-0. Juan Camacho doubled over the head of Ben Van Iderstine in right field to score Grossman to make it 4-0. Then Luke Hetherington followed with a RBI single of his own to score Camacho and the X's had a 5 run lead.

The Canaries would come back in the top of the 4th and put 4 runs on the board off of X's starter Cameron Cheek. The inning was highlighted by a solo HR by Patrick Reilly.

Sioux City would get 1 run back when Schermerhorn scored on a throwing error by 3B Grant Richardson to make it 6-4 X's. The Canaries got a RBI double by Will Smith in the top of the 5th to cut the lead back to 1, 6-5.

That's where the bullpen took over for the Explorers. Garvis Romero would throw 2 1/3 innings, only allowing 1 hit. Tony O'Donnell would retire the one batter he would face and Reid retired all 4 batters he pitched against to get his 7th save.

The X's put the game out of reach with 2 runs in the 7th on a RBI single by Camacho and a RBI double by Alex Llanos.

Schermerhorn helped lead the offense going 2-4 with a double, 2 runs and a RBI. Camacho finished 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Grossman walked twice, scored twice and drove in 2.

The X's will try to make it 2 in a row against the Canaries on Saturday night. Alexander Francisco will be looking for his 6th win in 6 starts while Sioux Falls will counter with Ben Moore. Game time is 7:05; call 277-WINS for tickets.
