ST. PAUL, MN (June 6, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints found out about the new kids on the block Friday night at Midway Stadium as they lost to the Wichita Wingnuts 12-2 in the teams' first ever meeting.

After a long nine game roadtrip the Saints looked weary as they returned home and it began in the first inning. Kevin Hooper led off with a grounder to first that went under Jason Colson's glove for an error. Hooper then advanced to second on a bad pick off attempt by pitcher Alec Shepherd and scored on a two-out single from Michael Thompson.

In the second Chris Colton drilled a solo shot to left, his second of the season, to give the Wingnuts a 2-0 lead.

With the score 3-0 in the third Brenan Herrera led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double to left by Thompson. Two batters later Colton hit a grounder to short and Brian Sprouts throw to the plate bounced and Kevin Sullivan couldn't hang on, allowing Herrera to score and making it 4-0. Stephen Pearson followed with an RBI single.

With the score 6-0 in the sixth Thompson clubbed a three-run homer to left, his fifth of the season and making it 9-0.

The Saints had only one hit through the first six innings, a bunt single by Ryan Priddy in the third. They finally got on the board in the seventh when Brent Krause and Ben Thomas started the inning with back-to-back singles. After a double play moved Krause to third Scooter Jordan singled home Krause. Jordan added an RBI single in the ninth and finished the night 2-5 with two RBI.
