New Bi-Weekly Show Highlighting Curve and Spikes Debuts Friday at 7:30 p.m.

ALTOONA, PA- WPSU-TV will debut a brand-new series exploring why minor league baseball has become Central and Western Pennsylvania's favorite summertime pastime and highlighting interesting feature stories and profiles on the players and ballpark personalities of both the Altoona Curve and State College Spikes. "The Hometown Double Play" will premiere on WPSU-TV this Friday evening, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. An encore broadcast of the first episode will be shown Saturday, May 31 at 10:30 a.m.

The show will be broadcast in eight episodes, running every-other Friday night, and repeating the following morning.

* Fridays at 7:30 p.m.: May 30, June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, Aug. 8, Aug. 22, and Sept. 5 * Encore broadcasts on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.: May 31, June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23, and Sept. 6

The opening chapter will premiere Friday and give viewers a chance to meet the Altoona Curve players, including a fun behind-the-scenes clubhouse segment hosted by pitcher Kyle Bloom and first baseman Jason Delaney. Viewers will also find out what minor league baseball truly is and why it is so important to the area.

"We are excited to be working with WPSU-TV on the 'Hometown Double Play' because this series is about more than just wins and losses and on-field news, but rather about the unique experience of minor league baseball and how the Curve and Spikes are creating lifetime memories for the residents of Central and Western Pennsylvania," said Altoona Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "Public television has always been centered on family entertainment and there is no better form of family entertainment in our region than Altoona Curve and State College Spikes Baseball. This is the perfect partnership."

State College Spikes and Penn State football and basketball voice Steve Jones hosts this ongoing summer series with compelling stories of the players and the summer events attended by friends and families cheering their hometown teams.

"It is about more than baseball. We want fans to experience the summer pastime through the eyes of players, management and especially the community," said Jones. "Our goal is to find what makes minor league baseball the region's best summer entertainment."
