Portland Beavers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Brian Myrow was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, and Cesar Ramos was strong in his third start of the campaign as the Portland Beavers beat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 5-1 Wednesday at Security Service Field.
Ramos (2-1) fanned seven and allowed just three hits and a walk in 5 2/3 shutout innings to pick up his second straight victory. The win gave Portland (6-7) a 2-0 lead in the series with the Sky Sox and a 3-3 ledger on its current road trip.
The Beavers, who passed up Colorado Springs in the standings, took their shutout bid into the eighth inning before Chris Frey hit an inside-the-park home run against reliever Paul Abraham to lead off the inning for the Sky Sox (6-8), who have lost three straight.
Myrow, who has a seven-game hitting streak, keyed a three-run rally with an RBI double in the fourth. Portland eventually loaded the bases in the frame, plating two more runs when Edgar Gonzalez scored on an error by third baseman Ian Stewart and Myrow came in on Luke Carlin's sac fly to right.
Myrow, the defending Pacific Coast League batting champion, is batting .462 (12-for-26) with eight walks over his last seven games to raise his season average from .158 to .333.
Carlin drew a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh and scored on an RBI groundout from Oscar Robles. In the ninth, Will Venable doubled home Luis Rodriguez, who stretched his season-opening hitting streak to 10 games.
Despite a quality start, Valerio de los Santos (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (2 earned), five hits and two walks while striking out three in his six innings.
The series continues Thursday morning at 9:35 a.m. (Pacific).
NOTES: The Beavers improved to 18-19 all-time at Security Service Field ... Chase Headley has a five-game hit streak ... Ramos is 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA (3er, 11.1ip) over his last two starts after a tough Triple-A debut on April 6 ... the Beavers return to PGE Park for a four-game series with Salt Lake, April 19-22.
