Arkansas Travelers News Release
Midland, TX - Two former Texas League All Stars have joined the Travs on their trip in Texas; OF Jordan Czarniecki and IF Adam Morrissey. To bring the Travs roster to 24 players, OF Jordan Renz was given his release by the Angels. Czarniecki and Morrissey were signed by the Angels as minor league free agents and had not played a game this season. Renz had played in three games for the Travs. RHP Jesse Smith has been sent to Tempe after experiencing elbow pain during Monday's loss to Frisco.
Morrissey rejoins the Travs after spending the 2007 season as their everyday second baseman where he batted .265/.383/.396. He added nine home runs plus a league-high 92 walks and 85 runs scored. The 26-year old native of Ourimbah, Australia, is a three-time Texas League All Star with Arkansas, Midland and Frisco. The Angels did not resign him during the offseason, and he was going to spring training for the Atlantic League before agreeing to rejoin the Travs.
A 25th round 2003 draft choice out of Tennessee, Czarniecki played in the Rockies organization for the last five years before being released following spring training. He helped lead the Tulsa Drillers to first-half division titles in each of the past two seasons, batting .278 with a career-best 13 homers and 58 RBI last year.
Renz, the Angels' 4th round draft choice in 2002, leaves the organization after six years and 497 games. He was 3-for-11 in three games for the Travs.
Smith, who missed most of the 2007 season with elbow problems, was pulled Monday in the third inning. He did not travel with the Travelers to Midland, instead reporting to the Angels extended spring training complex in Tempe.
