Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The Roughriders got back to their winning Friday night at Dr Pepper as they defeated the Springfield, 8-3 and improved their mark to 6-1. A crowd of 9,491 saw the 'Riders give starting pitcher Michael Ballard, plenty of run support scoring eight runs on nine hits in return for his six solid innings of work.

The Springfield Cardinals took an early lead in the fourth inning when Allen Craig scored on a groundball to second baseman Corey Ragsdale. The RoughRiders answered in their half of the inning when two hit batsmen and a walk prolonged the inning for Steve Murphy who singled in Taylor Teagarden and Max Ramirez. Corey Ragsdale followed with a double to center that allowed Adam Fox and Murphy to score. Craig Gentry joined the hit parade with a single to right that plated Ragsdale giving the RoughRiders a five to one lead.

The RoughRiders added to their lead in the fifth inning when John Mayberry Jr. hit a bomb to right center field. Frisco added one more in the sixth when a Cardinal throwing error allowed Murphy to score.

Springfield scored two runs in the top of the seventh to cut into Frisco's lead but it was not enough as the RoughRiders added another run in the eighth making the score 8-3.

Murphy continues his strong hitting going 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored raising his batting average to .381. Frisco starter, Ballard (1-0), pitched six strong innings striking out six while only allowing five hits. Relievers Jake Dittler, Dan Touchet, and Warner Madrigal added three solid innings of relief to seal Frisco's sixth victory of the young season.

The rubber game of the series will take place tomorrow night at 7:00 pm in Dr Pepper Ballpark. Taking the mound for the RoughRiders will be Micheal Schlact (0-0) against Adam Ottavino (0-1).
