Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added some talent at a pivotal position today with the signing of quarterback Zac Taylor to a practice roster agreement.
As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Taylor (6-2, 210, Nebraska '06, DOB: May 10, 1983 in Norman, Okla.) attended training camp with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this year after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent on May 4. He was released prior to the start of the regular season.
Taylor comes to the Big Blue with an impressive collegiate resume. During his two seasons at the University of Nebraska (2005-06), he completed 470-of-821 pass attempts for 5,850 yards, 45 touchdowns and 20 interceptions with a passer rating of 130.3.
In 2006 he was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year after completing 233-of-391 pass attempts for 3,197 yards and 26 TDs. Both marks were single-season school records. As a junior in 2005, he competed 237-of-430 pass attempts and tossed 19 TD passes. He led the Cornhuskers to back-to-back appearances in the Alamo Bowl both seasons.
Taylor was originally recruited by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He red-shirted at Wake Forest in 2002 and was the back-up in 2003. He spent the 2004 season at Butler Community College, earning Second-Team NJCAA All-America honours.
"Zac Taylor has all the tools required to be a professional quarterback," said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman. "We are anxious to get him into our mix of quarterbacks and acclimatized with the Canadian game."
