B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) BC Lions running back Ian Smart has earned Rogers CFL Special Teams Player of the Week honours for Week 12 after a 86-yard, five punt return performance in the Lions' 40-7 defeat of the Toronto Argonauts last Saturday night. The second-year speedster also added 56 yards on 2 kickoff returns.
This is the second time this season that Smart has earned the title as he also received the nod in Week 7, and it follows on the heels of his recognition as Rogers CFL Special Teams Player of the Month for August. Smart has enjoyed a stellar season to date and he continues to lead all CFL return men with 890 yards on 38 kickoffs as well as 570 yards on 59 punt returns and also sits atop the CFL charts for combined yards with 1,677 - more than 400 yards ahead of his nearest rival (Charles Roberts - 1,265).
The CFL also announced that Lions kicker Paul McCallum was recognized as runner up in the Special Teams category.
The Lions will look another big effort from Smart as they take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a battle of division leaders this Saturday at 4:00 pm (PT) - fans can catch all the action live on the TEAM 1040.
The next BC Lions home game is Saturday, September 29th versus the Calgary Stampeders at 7:00 pm at BC Place presented by Frito Lay - for tickets call 604-589-ROAR. For more information on the BC Lions Football Club, please visit our website at bclions.com.
