Thunder Add Vechionacci, Wordekemper From Tampa

(Manchester, NH)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced on Sunday the addition of INF Marcos Vechionacci and RHP Eric Wordekemper to the roster from the Tampa Yankees. C's Jason Brown and J.T. LaFountain have been transferred to the Tampa roster.

Vechionacci, rated the #11 prospect in the N.Y. Yankees system by Baseball America, had a .266 BA, 2 HR and 39 RBI for Tampa this season. He joins Trenton after hitting .343 with 15 RBI during August. The switch-hitting 3B will be in the starting linuep for Trenton tonight as they play the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The Yankees signed him as a non-drafted free agent in 2002.

Wordekemper was leading the Florida State League with 33 SV and a 0.57 ERA. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 27 games, dating back to May 27th. That is a span of 28.0 innings. Wordekemper was a 46th Round pick in the 2005 draft from Creighton University.

Brown had a .208, HR, 3 RBI in 15 games for the Thunder. He spent most of the last two months on the Disabled List with a shoulder injury, but was activated earlier this week.

LaFountain had a .158 BA in 20 games for the Thunder. He had played in seven games recently with injuries to C's Omir Santos and P.J. Pilittere, both of whom have been activated in the last three days.

The Thunder play New Hampshire tonight at 6:05 PM in Manchester, NH. Jeff Marquez (14-9) starts for the Thunder against New Hampshire's Kurt Isenberg (4-10, 5.49). Trenton will host Games #1 & #2 of the Northern Division Championship Series on Wednesday and Thursday against either Portland or New Hampshire. Game times are at 7:05 PM.
