Sea Dogs Complete Series Win With 7-1 Victory at Connecticut

Norwich, CT -- Charlie Zink fired five shutout innings, facing just one batter above the mininum, and Andrew Pinckney drove in four runs as the Portland Sea Dogs topped the Connecticut Defenders, 7-1 before 2,496 fans at Dodd Stadium Thursday night. Jed Lowrie singled twice to become only the fourth player in franchise history with a 30-game on-base streak, joining Kevin Youkilis (62 games in 2003), Kevin Millar (46 in 1997) and Mark Kotsay (31 in 1997).
Zink (4-1) fired five innings of one-hit, one-walk ball, facing only 16 batters. The Defenders did not advance a runner to scoring position against the knuckleballer. Zink left the game early after a 55-inning rain delay at the end of the fourth inning. Beau Vaughan (2 innings, 1 run) and Andrew Dobies (2 scoreless innings) completed the five-hitter.
Lowrie extended his on-base streak with an RBI single in the first inning, bringing home Jeff Corsaletti after a leadoff double.
Portland scored twice in the third frame thanks to a run-scoring error and a Pinckney sacrifice fly off Garrett Broshuis (1-7), who allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits in four innings.
Pinckney added a two-run double to cap a three-run seventh inning and an RBI double in the ninth inning to wrap up the scoring. It was the first four-RBI game for Pinckney in his Double-A career and his first four-RBI game since July 5, 2006 as a member of the Single-A Wilmington Blue Rocks.
NOTES: The Sea Dogs and Defenders continue the seven-game home and home series tomorrow night with the opener of a four-game set -- the two sides play a twinight doubleheader on Saturday at 6 p.m... Portland did not have a single batter strike out for the first time this season... Zink's win was his 17th as a member of the Sea Dogs, moving him to third place on the Sea Dogs franchise record books as a Red Sox affiliate behind Kason Gabbard (21) and Chris Smith (19).
