Trenton Thunder News Release
(Manchester, NH)- Trenton's bats came alive for season highs in runs scored (11) and hits (18), including four hits from 2B Gabriel Lopez, in an 11-3 win over New Hampshire on Thursday night. Jeff Marquez worked six innings for his seventh win of the year.
The Thunder (33-18) also established season highs for runs and hits in an inning as Trenton scored six runs on seven hits in the 9th Inning to break the game open. New Hampshire (27-22) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning with a solo homer by Chip Cannon off Marquez. But Trenton tied the game on a Carlos Mendoza RBI single and then took the lead off Fisher Cats starter David Purcey for good in the 4th Inning thanks to run-scoring singles from Noah Hall and Justin Christian. Purcey (3-4) took the loss allowing four runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
New Hampshire got to within 4-3 before the the Thunder broke the game open late. In the 8th Inning, P.J. Pilittere tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hall. Then in the ninth, the Thunder scored their six runs on six straight hits off relievers Connor Falkenbach and Jesse Carlson. The Thunder had three doubles and a triple among their RBI hits in the inning.
Lopez had four hits and two runs scored, while Mendoza added three hits and two RBI. Hall collected three hits and three RBI, while Pilittere had three hist and three runs scored. Meanwhile, Marquez (7-3) allowed three runs in six innings for the win. He is now tied for the Eastern League lead and is a perfect 6-0 on the road in 2007.
Trenton begins a homestand on Friday with three games against Akron. The first of the weekend series is Friday at 7:05 PM. Brett Smith (4-2, 1.41) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Shawn Nottingham (5-2, 2.65).
