Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Kendry Morales went 2-5 with five RBI and two runs scored against the Tucson Sidewinders to lead the Salt Lake Bees to their eighth win of the season. His three run home run in the top of the second was his first of this season, and quickly put the Sky Sox up 3-0. RHP Enrique Gonzalez took the loss for the Sidewinders, giving up seven runs, four of them earned, in 5 2/3 innings pitched.
After Morales' three run bomb in the second, the Sidewinders were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when their first four hitters reached base on hits. 1B Chris Carter and 3B Jamie D'Antona singled before Dee Brown crushed a 2-0 pitch to left field, scoring both runners. RF Alex Romero followed Brown's double with another two-bagger, hustling out a ground ball to center field and continuing to second when nobody was covering the base. Brown advanced to third on the play, and then scored on 2B Donnie Sadler's 6-3 putout.
Salt Lake added four more runs in the top of the 6th on three hits and one Sidewinders error. Three of their 6th inning runs were unearned. The Sidewinders have now committed five errors in the past two games. The Sky Sox added one more run in each of the 7th and 8th innings, and two in the top of the 9th to put the Sidewinders at an 11-6 disadvantage heading into the bottom of the 9th. Alex Serrano picked up his first save on the year, getting two outs in the 8th and pitching a scoreless 9th to put the Sky Sox at 8-5 on the year. The Sidewinders dropped below .500 to 5-6 for the season.
The Sidewinders will face the Salt Lake Bees in the first game of a four game series starting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday night. RHP D.J. Carrasco (0-1, 3.60) is scheduled to start for Tucson. RHP Pedro Liriano (0-2, 9.00) will start for the Bees. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
