Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts continued their dominance on the mound, as they received another stellar pitching performance Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 triumph over the Great Lakes Loons before 1,612 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The win is the fourth straight for Lansing.
The Lugnuts starting pitcher was Zach Dials, who threw five innings of shutout baseball while scattering four hits. Lansing's starters have given up just five earned runs through the first six games.
The Lugnuts took the lead in the second inning when Matt Liuzza scored on a Brian Bormaster single to center field that made it 1-0.
Great Lakes was able to battle back in the sixth and tie the game on an RBI double into right field by Josh Bell that plated Matt Berezay from first base.
However, the Lugnuts regained possession of the lead for good in the bottom half of the frame. Brian Pettway lined a double into the left field corner that allowed Travis Snider to score and make it a 2-1 game. Lansing's final run came in the eighth when Trayvon Robinson dropped a routine fly ball in center that allowed Scott Campbell to score.
Ben Harrison (1-0) got the win for the Lugnuts, throwing one inning and allowing one run on two hits. His run was the first one given up by the Lugnuts bullpen this season. Seth Overbey nailed down his first save of the year by pitching the ninth.
Doug Brooks (1-1) suffered the loss for the Loons.
Lansing (5-1) will look to sweep Great Lakes (4-5) in the final game of the series on Monday night. Left-hander Nate Starner (0-1, 1.80) will get the call for the Lugnuts, while Francisco Felix (0-0, 0.00) will take the hill for the Loons. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park.
