
Devils Stay Hot at Home, 3-2 Over Bridgeport

Lowell, MA - Jordan Parise stopped 33 shots while David Clarkson and Stephen Gionta both recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Lowell Devils (24-22-5-2) to a 3-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (26-21-1-4) Saturday night at Tsongas Arena. The Devils improved to 4-0-1-0 in their last five at home.
Lowell opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Gionta netted his fourth of the season at 5:56, slamming in a rebound off the end boards to make it 1-0. Clarkson and Andy Greene picked up the assists. Parise got off to a strong start between the pipes, stopping all 11 shots he faced in the period.
The rest of the scoring came in the second period. Chris Minard skated from his own blueline, weaved into the offensive zone on the right wing side and fired home his 21st of the season, using the defenseman as a screen to make it 2-0 Devils. The Sound Tigers got on the board at 4:45 with a goal by Petteri Nokelainen to cut the lead in half. Later in the stanza, Clarkson knocked home a centering feed from the top of the crease to make it 3-1. Greene and Gionta both picked up assists on the goal, Clarkson's 15th of the season. Jason Pitton scored the final goal of the night at 16:04, again pu! lling the Sound Tigers within a goal.!
Parise did the rest for Lowell in the third. The rookie netminder turned aside everything the Sound Tigers threw at him, racking up ! 12 saves in the period. He improved to 10-8-1 with the win. It was the third win in a row for the Devils on home ice, and they moved up to a fifth-place tie with the idle Portland Pirates in the Atlantic Division, four points behind fourth-place Worcester.
The Devils head to Springfield to play the Falcons on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The Worcester Sharks come into town on Wednesday night for a 7:05 p.m. start.
