Fisher Cats rally past Sea Dogs, 8-4, Friday night

Manchester, NH- Adam Lind, David Smith and Chip Cannon all hit home runs to help the New Hampshire Fisher Cats rally past the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-4, in front of a sellout crowd of 6,796 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday night.

Lind (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) hit a two-run shot deep over the leftfield foul pole in the bottom of the first inning against Portland starter Chris Smith (9-4), cutting the Sea Dogs' lead to 3-2.

New Hampshire (38-47) would go ahead to stay with a four-run fourth inning. Chris Smith balked home a run, Lind hit a sacrifice fly, and David Smith smacked his 10th homer of the year, a two-run blast into the lower tier of the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den, staking the Fisher Cats to a 6-3 advantage.

Cannon led off the bottom of the seventh inning with his 13th home run off Jonathan Searles, and Tim Olson drove in his Fisher Cats' run with a single against Edgar Martinez later in the same inning.

Jesse Litsch (1-0) shook off a rough first inning to earn his first Double-A victory. The 21-year-old right-hander worked six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked one.

Tracy Thorpe held Portland (49-35) to one hit over three shutout innings to notch his team-leading sixth save.

The Sea Dogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single by Luis Jimenez and Chris Durbin's RBI single.

New Hampshire and Portland play a twi-night doubleheader Saturday starting at 5:05pm at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Mike MacDonald (7-4, 3.35) and Danny Hill (1-4, 4.85) get the starting assignments for the Fisher Cats. The Sea Dogs counter with Devern Hansack (3-3, 3.12) and Jose Vaquedano (5-3, 6.55).
