The Portland Sea Dogs were held to just two hits on Saturday afternoon, dropping game two of their series to New Hampshire, 4-1 at Hadlock Field in front of 6,978. The Fisher Cats pitchers retired the final 17 batters faced to secure their third win in four meetings against Portland this season.
Dusty Brown provided the lone highlight for the Sea Dogs, blasting his first Double-A home run to lead off the third inning. Brown was Portland's last hit of the game - Chad Spann doubled with two outs in the second inning.
Ismael Ramirez beat Portland for the second time in his career and evened his record to 3-3 in 2006. The righty worked seven innings, retiring the final 11 batters faced, yielding two hits, four walks and fanning two. Phil Seibel (0-3) remains winless since joining the Sea Dogs on April 28 from Single-A Greenville. Seibel worked five innings, allowing three hits (all in the third), two runs and fanned three. Rodney Ormond capped of the victory, notching his second save of the season with two perfect innings.
New Hampshire grabbed the early lead with two straight RBI singles from Adam Lind and Curtis Thigpen off Seibel in the third. The Fisher Cats extended their lead when Maikel Jova delivered a two-run double off Barry Hertzler in the eighth inning.
The Sea Dogs finished the game 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position after going 4-for-10 on Friday night.
Devern Hansack worked two perfect frames for the Sea Dogs in relief of Seibel. Mike Bumatay and Jon Searles allowed one run in 1/3 of an inning pitched. Barry Hertzler allowed two hits and no runs over one and 1/3 innings.
Notes...Chad Spann extended his hitting streak to five games...Brown's home run was the first for Portland since May 10 (Luis Jimenez at Trenton)...Ismael Ramirez had worked 29.1 innings in his career against Portland without allowing a home run before Brown's blast.
