Alay Soler Headed To The Majors

The New York Mets announced today that Binghamton Mets RHP Alay Soler has been called up to the parent club. He is expected to Major League debut with New York as a starter in the coming week.

Soler was superb in three starts with the B-Mets, going 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA. The 26-year-old righthander lasted six innings or more and allowed three runs or fewer in all three of his Eastern League outings after going 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in five starts with High-A St. Lucie. He joined Binghamton May 3rd.

The righthander is in his first pro season in the US after defecting from Cuba in 2003. While in Cuba, he was one of that nation's top pitchers, going 24-9 with a 2.55 ERA in five pro seasons. He was signed to a three-year contract by the Mets in August, 2004.

The Binghamton Mets continue their seven-game homestand Sunday with a 1:30 game against the Altoona Curve before the Portland Sea Dogs come to NYSEG Stadium for a four-game series starting Monday.
