Nationals Switch Church and Escobar

Harrisburg Senators News Release


The Harrisburg Senators announced today that the Washington Nationals have promoted Alex Escobar to the major leagues. Escobar will move to the big league team taking the spot of Ryan Church, who will go to Harrisburg. Escobar returns to the major leagues where he last played in 2004 with the Cleveland Indians.

Escobar leaves Harrisburg after playing in 28 games this season with a .298 average with 4 homers and 19 RBI's. Alex was also walked 19 times for a team-best .445 on base percentage.

Church is sent to Harrisburg after playing in 23 games with Washington this year. Church hit .215 with the Nationals with 4 home runs and 11 RBI's. He started the 2006 season with triple-A New Orleans where he appeared in seven games and hit .130 with 1 homer and 2 runs batted in.

Church appeared with Harrisburg last season on a major league rehab assignment and went 4-18 with a double in four games from July 8th to the 13th.

With the moves today, the Senators roster stands at 23 active players.
