
Frith, BlueClaws Beat Shorebirds

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (4-1) opened up a short two game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds (2-3), Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, Saturday night. Ryan Frith's two-run double in the eighth with one out gave Lakewood a 9-8 win.
Lakewood led 7-1 entering the sixth before Delmarva rallied to take an 8-7 lead in the eighth. The Shorebirds plated three runs in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Lakewood battled back in the bottom half of the eighth beginning with Greg Golson who led off with a walk. With one out in the inning Sam Orr connected for a base hit then Doug Gredvig walked to load the bases. Frith then followd up with a double down the left field line plating Golson and Orr to put the BlueClaws up 9-8.
Jacob Barrack pitched the ninth setting the Shorebirds down in order for his fifth save of the year.
Lakewood took an early lead in the game plating five runs in the first off the Shorebirds starter Russ Petrick. With two on and two out Frith got the scoring started with a two run triple to put Lakewood up 2-0. Jesus Merchan followed up with and RBI double then two batters later with the bases loaded Josh Mader connected for a two-run base hit to cap off the scoring.
Lakewood led 5-1 entering the fourth when Brad Harman drove in Golson with an RBI base hit to put Lakewood up 6-1. Frith made it 7-1 when he blasted his ninth homer of the year, a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning.
Maximo De La Cruz got the no decision pitching 5 1/3 and allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits while walking three and striking out four. Joe Bisenius (3-2) picked up the win in relief after coming in to relieve Kevin Rose with the bases loaded and one out. Bisenius hit a batter to force the tying run in then gave up an RBI sacrifice fly that put the Shorebirds up 8-7. Both runs were credited to Rose.
Frith was a base-hit away from the cycle going 3-for-5 with five RBI's. Josh Mader finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
The BlueClaws wrap up their home stand and series with Delmarva on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Tim Worrell will make his final rehab start at FirstEnergy Park. The Phillies right-handed reliever has started two games for Lakewood. The Shorebirds will send right-hander Luis Ramirez (2-4, 3.30) to the mound. First pitch on Sunday afternoon is at 1:05 p.m. with on-air time at 12:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun.
