Gwinnett Stripers News Release

RICHMOND, VA- Richmond Braves catcher Brayan Pena has been called up to the Atlanta Braves. Pena was leading the International League in hitting at the time of his call-up. Pena has no previous major league service.

Pena, who had not played above Double-A prior to this season, is hitting .417 and leads the IL on-base percentage (.465). Pena is nine for his last 14. His eight game hitting streak ended with a pinch-hitting appearance last Friday. He is 24-43 (.559) in his last 12 games. Pena has hits in three straight games. He is the fourth R-Brave and the first position player to earn a big league call up this season.

To take his spot on the roster, the Braves have activated RHP Trey Hodges. He began this season with the Minnesota Twins Triple-A club at Rochester. Hodges pitched in nine games with the Red Wings, all in relief. He was 0-0 5.63 in 17 innings.

Hodges was re-acquired by the Braves as a free agent. This is his third stint in Richmond. He was a Triple-A All Star and led the IL in wins with 15 in 2002. Hodges spent all of 2003 with Atlanta. He split last season between the R-Braves and the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese Central League.

The Braves continue a 10 game homestand tonight vs. Norfolk at 7 PM. For ticket information please call 804-359-4444 or visit the Braves on the web at www.rbraves.com.
