Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - LHP Mike Watt delivered six scoreless innings and every hitter in the starting lineup reached base safely for the fourth straight game as the Fort Wayne TinCaps held off the Great Lakes Loons, 4-1, Sunday at Parkview Field. Justin Baum drove in a pair of runs. Watt, who came from the Dodgers to the Padres as a "player to be named later" in last fall's Greg Maddux trade, was brilliant. He worked six innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out six.

The TinCaps jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Blake Tekotte rifled a leadoff single into left to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. He stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on Baum's RBI single to make it 1-0. Jaff Decker, who walked, later came in to score on Allan Dykstra's sacrifice fly.

Fort Wayne added a run in the 2nd, but failed to fully capitalize on a bases-loaded, nobody-out situation. Yefri Carvajal hit a leadoff single, Griffin Benedict hit an infield single in his first TinCaps at-bat and Daniel Robertson drew a walk. Tekotte lifted a sacrifice fly to put the TinCaps ahead, 3-0, but a double-play short-circuited the rally.

Meanwhile, Watt only allowed one runner to reach scoring position. In the 4th, he allowed an infield single and hit a batter to start the inning, but a double play and a strikeout kept the Loons scoreless.

In the bottom of the 7th, the TinCaps scored a run on an oddball play. With runners at first and second and nobody out, Baum lifted a fly ball to deep right field. Kyle Russell made the catch falling down onto the warning track. Cumberland, tagging from second, came all the way around to score and made it 4-0.

The Loons plated their only run in the 9th on a two-out single by Nick Buss. Watt (3-2) picked up the win. Great Lakes RHP Josh Walter (5-2) took the loss.

The TinCaps, winners of five in a row, improved to 54-26 overall, 9-1 in the second half. Great Lakes dipped to 44-35, 4-5 in the half.

The teams continue the four-game series Monday at 7:05pm at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne RHP Simon Castro (5-4) is opposed by Loons LHP Geison Aguasviva (3-0), who has not allowed an earned run this year
