2003 ECHL All-Star Goaltender Smith In NHL

PRINCETON, N.J. - The 2003 ECHL All-Star Game was the second year that asked ECHL coaches to name players who they felt to be prospects to move up to the American Hockey League and the National Hockey League.

Mike Smith is currently the backup goaltender for Dallas in the NHL while many others from the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game are currently in the AHL. Selected to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Smith was called up to Dallas in the NHL on January 7. Smith was 11-10-4 with a 2.55 goals against average and a .910 save percentage in 27 games with Lexington of the ECHL in 2002-03 and 5-5-0 with a 3.32 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in 11 games with Utah of the AHL. Currently the backup goaltender for Dallas, Smith was 7-9-0 with a 2.86 goals against average and a .909 save percentage in 18 games with Utah of the AHL before his call up.

Here is a look at some of the other players from the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game:

Under contract to Edmonton and making the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Mike Bishai scored 29 points (12g-17a) in 25 games with Columbus of the ECHL, and scored 12 points (7g-5a) in 27 games with Hamilton of the AHL in 2002-03. Bishai has spent the entire 2003-04 season in AHL with Toronto scoring 17 points (9g-8a) in 28 games.

Selected to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season and under contract to Vancouver of the NHL, Justin Morrison scored 55 points (20g-35a) in 40 regular season games and appeared in two Kelly Cup Playoff games for Columbia of the ECHL in 2002-03 while also scoring 16 points (10g-6a) in 30 regular season games and five points (2g-3a) in 14 playoff games with Manitoba. Morrison has spent the entire 2003-04 season with Manitoba of the AHL scoring 16 points (10g-6a) in 35 games.

Named to his second consecutive ECHL All-Star Game in 2003, Kevin Colley was named MVP of the Kelly Cup Playoffs after scoring a league-leading 13 goals and 20 points in 17 games after scoring 71 points (33g-38a) in 50 regular season games for Atlantic City. He also scored five points (2g-3a) in 16 regular season games with Syracuse of the AHL and two points (1g-1a) in six regular season games with Worcester of the AHL. Colley has spent the entire 2003-04 season in AHL with Bridgeport scoring 16 points (8g-8a) in 38 regular season games.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game and the ECHL All-Rookie Team, Mike Glumac scored 69 points (37g-32a) in 69 games with Pee Dee of the ECHL and also appeared in two games with Cleveland of the AHL in 2002-03. Glumac has spent the entire 2003-04 season in AHL with Worcester scoring 25 points (12g-13a) in 38 games.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, defenseman Dustin Wood scored 27 points (4g-23a) in 63 regular season games and one point (0g-1a) in three Kelly Cup Playoff games with Trenton in 2002-03 while also appearing in six games in the AHL with Bridgeport. In 2003-04, Wood has scored one point (0g-1a) in 32 games with Springfield of the AHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game, J.J. Hunter scored 53 points (17g-36a) in 70 games with Columbus of the ECHL and also appeared in two games with Hamilton of the AHL in 2002-03. Under contract to Edmonton of the National Hockey League, Hunter has scored three points (2g-1a) in four games with Columbus and four points (2g-2a) in 20 games with Toronto of the AHL in 2003-04.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first full professional season, defenseman Aaron Schneekloth scored 30 points (8g-22a) in 41 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in four Kelly Cup Playoff games for South Carolina in 2002-03 while also appearing in two games with Grand Rapids of the AHL. Schneekloth has scored four points (1g-3a) in 34 games with Grand Rapids in 2003-04 and played one game with South Carolina.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game and to the ECHL All-Rookie Team in his first professional season, Adam Hauser was 20-9-4 with a 2.46 goals against average and a .916 save percentage in 34 games with Jackson of the ECHL in 2002-03 and 0-0-1 with a 2.80 goals against average in one game with Providence of the AHL. Under contract to Manchester of the AHL in 2003-04, Hauser is 9-8-2 with a 2.05 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 20 games with Manchester and 3-0-0 with a 1.71 goals against average and a .930 save percentage in three games with Reading.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Kent Davyduke scored 20 points (7g-13a) in 20 regular season games with Trenton and 36 points (12g-24a) in 25 regular season games and 12 points (3g-9a) in 12 Kelly Cup Playoff games with Mississippi in 2002-03. Davyduke also played 25 games in the AHL in 2002-03 scoring five points (2g-3a) in 12 games with Hershey and one point (1g-0a) in 13 games with Manchester. In 2003-04 has scored 25 points (12g-13a) in 32 games with Reading of the ECHL while also appearing in two games with Hershey of the AHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Judd Medak scored 43 points (17g-26a) in 62 regular season games and three points (0g-3a) in four Kelly Cup Playoff games with Greenville in 2002-03 while also scoring four points (2g-2a) in nine regular season games with Chicago of the AHL. Medak has appeared in three games with Manchester of the AHL in 2003-04 while also scoring 28 points (14g-14a) in 27 games with Reading.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Zenon Konopka scored 70 points (22g-48a) in 68 games with Wheeling of the ECHL in 2002-03 and one point (0g-1a) in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL in 2002-03. Under contract to Utah of the AHL in 2003-04, Konopka has scored one point (1g-0a) in six games with Utah and 28 points (6g-22a) in 22 games with Idaho of the ECHL.

Named as a starter in the ECHL All-Star Game for the second year in a row in 2004, Jason Jaffray was named ECHL Rookie of the Year after scoring 85 points (34g-51a) in 64 regular season games and three points (0g-3a) in 64 Kelly Cup Playoff games for Roanoke in 2002-03 while also appearing in two games with Norfolk of the AHL. Under contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL in 2003-04, Jaffray has played one game in the AHL while scoring 49 points (20g-20a) in 35 games with Wheeling of the ECHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Chris McNamara scored 32 points (12g-20a) in 47 games with Wheeling of the ECHL and eight points (2g-6a) in 28 games with Lowell of the AHL in 2002-03. In 2003-04, McNamara has scored three points (2g-1a) in 13 games with Lowell of the AHL and 20 points (6g-14a) in 22 games with Wheeling of the ECHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Jim Henkel scored 68 points (32g-36a) in 68 regular season games and 15 points (3g-12a) in 19 Kelly Cup Playoff games with Atlantic City and also appeared in two games with Cleveland of the AHL in 2002-03. In 2003-04, Henkel has appeared in the AHL with Grand Rapids and Worcester. He has scored three points (2g-1a) in 15 games with Grand Rapids and 16 points (9g-7a) in 16 games with Atlantic City of the ECHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game, Tyler Rennette scored 74 points (42g-32a) in 65 regular season games and three points (1g-2a) in four Kelly Cup Playoff games with Peoria of the ECHL in 2002-03. Rennette also scored two points (0g-2a) in four regular season games with Hamilton of the AHL and appeared in two playoff games with Bridgeport of the AHL in 2002-03. In 2003-04, Rennette has scored 31 points (15g-16a) in 30 games with Peoria of the ECHL while also appearing in two games with Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Appearing in his second consecutive ECHL All-Star Game and making his first ECHL All-Star Game start in 2004, defenseman Jon Zion scored 52 points (14g-38a) in 58 games with Richmond in 2002-03 while also scoring three points (2g-1a) in 12 games with Cincinnati of the AHL and appearing in six games with Portland of the AHL. In 2003-04, Zion has scored 22 points (6g-16a) in 21 games with Reading of the ECHL and has two points (0g-2a) in eight games with Manchester of the AHL.

Making a record third appearance and third start in 2004, goaltender Scott Stirling was 17-3-4 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .996 save percentage in 25 regular season games with Atlantic City of the ECHL and 8-4 with a 2.07 goals against average and a .920 save percentage while helping the Boardwalk Bullies win the 2003 Kelly Cup Championship. In 2002-03 in the AHL, Stirling was 8-2-0 with a 2.41 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 10 games with Bridgeport and 1-0-0 with a 2.41 goals against average and a .840 save percentage in one game with Worcester. Under contract to Grand Rapids in 2003-04, Stirling is 20-7-1 with a 1.69 goals against average and a .940 save percentage in 28 games with Atlantic City.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first full professional season, Andrew Ianiero scored 61 points (23g-38a) in 66 regular season games and two points (0g-2a) in seven Kelly Cup Playoff games with Toledo in 2001-02. He also played in the AHL scoring one goal in one game with Grand Rapids while also appearing in three games with Milwaukee and three games with Cincinnati.

Making his first start and third ECHL All-Star Game appearance in 2004, Brian McCullough leads the ECHL with 24 goals and ranks third in scoring with 50 points in 38 games. Under contract to Lowell of the AHL, McCullough scored a goal and had an assist in the Northern Conference's 8-2 win in the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game and he had hat trick in the Northern Conference's 9-5 loss in the 2001 ECHL All-Star Game.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Pierre-Luc Courchesne scored 28 points (14g-14a) in 67 games with Johnstown and also scored two points (0g-2a) in three games with Saint-John of the AHL in 2002-03.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game, defenseman Ryan Gaucher scored 65 points (19g-46a) in 54 regular season games and nine points (2g-7a) in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games for Cincinnati in 2002-03. Gaucher also scored three points in two games with Cleveland of the AHL and four points (3g-1a) with Norfolk of the AHL in 2002-03. Under contract to Norfolk of the AHL in 2003-04, Gaucher has scored three points (1g-2a) in three games with Florence.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Marty Johnston scored 63 points (22g-41a) in 55 regular season games with Florida in 2002-03 while also scoring four points (2g-2a) in 17 games with Lowell of the AHL.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game and under contract to Carolina of the NHL, Rob Zepp was 20-13-7 with a 2.83 goals against average in 41 games with Florida and 1-3-1 with a 3.16 goals against average in five games with Lowell of the AHL in 2002-03. In 2003-04, Zepp is 9-4-1 with a 3.10 goals against average in 18 games with Florida while also appearing in one game with Lowell.

Named to the ECHL All-Star Game in his first professional season, Matt Underhill was 16-13-2 with a 2.81 goals against average in 33 games with Pee Dee of the ECHL and 3-3-1 with a 3.08 goals against average in seven games with Providence of the AHL in 2002-03. In 2003-04, Underhill is 5-8-2 with a 3.25 goals against average in 15 games with Florence of the ECHL and 2-2-0 with a 2.90 goals against average in four games with Manchester of the AHL.
