KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to this evening's contest against the Huntsville Stars.
Right-handed reliever Tony Zych has been placed on the Disabled List. In his team-leading 41 relief appearances this season with the Smokies, the 24-year-old has posted a 4-5 record and 5.57 ERA (32 ER in 51.2 IP), in addition to two saves.
In a corresponding move, right-handed reliever Zach Cates has been activated from the Disabled List. In 17 relief outings for Tennessee in 2014, the Arkansas native has accumulated a 2-1 record and 3.74 ERA (9 ER in 21.2 IP).
The Smokies are set to take on the Huntsville Stars, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, this evening at 7:15 p.m. at Smokies Stadium. Tennessee is slated to give the ball to RHP Corey Black (5-7, 3.18), while Huntsville is scheduled to counter with RHP Jacob Barnes (2-5, 4.36).
