
Zubia Hits in Six Straight Games in Loss to Border Cats

Marshall, Minn.- The Honkers (2-4) dropped their first series of the season with a 5-1 loss against the Border Cats (3-3) on Sunday. The game was played at Legion Field in Marshall, Minnesota. Rochester will travel to Thunder Bay, Ont. for the only time this season on July 11-12.
Thunder Bay opened the game up with back-to-back singles. Three batters later, Gabriel Lozada (Hillsborough CC) came into score on a JQ Folena (Mayville State) single to give the Border Cats a 1-0 lead.
Honkers' first baseman Zach Zubia (Texas) tied up the game with one swing with two outs in the third. The Longhorn slugger hit his third home run of the season and second against the Border Cats. Zubia has earned a hit in each of the Honkers' six games this season. Thunder Bay reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning after a two-run single by Brendan Dougherty (Bradley).
Michael Stryffeler (Lake Erie) pitched five innings in his first start for the Honkers. He took the loss (0-1) after giving up three runs on six hits. He walked three batters with four strikeouts. The Border Cats added two more runs in the seventh inning and held the Honkers to just one hit in the final five innings of the game.
The Border Cats' starting pitcher Noah Denoyer (San Joaquin Delta) left the game with an injury in the first inning. Jacob Karl (Augsburg) filled in and earned the win (1-0) for Thunder Bay, pitching 5.2 innings in relief.
Rochester will head to Duluth next on their six-game road trip. Cameron Aufderheide (Colorado Springs) will make his second start of the season for the Honkers Monday night. First pitch from Wade Stadium tomorrow is 6:35 pm.
