St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN -- Well, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Last year's Northwoods League leader in walks stood at the plate with a full count and two outs in the bottom of the 10th. Except Luke Ringhofer (South Dakota State) did not get to ball four. He hit a ground ball toward second base, and it looked like an easy groundout to end the inning. Key emphasis on "looked like."
Michael Pereznegron for the Larks picked up the ball hit right at him, but dropped the ball before he could throw to first. The ball hit the grass behind him, and Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) touched home for the Rox win.
On a day where both offenses struggled to hit, three of the four runs in the 9 innings came from wild pitches. David Salguiero scored the first run in the 1st after being hit on the first pitch of the game. He stole second baseb on the ensuing pitch, and moments later scored the run after Jared Solomon (Xavier) threw a wild pitch.
Although Solomon gave up another run in the 4th the same way, it was still a solid performance. Solomon pitched 4 innings and only gave up those two runs, while striking out 7. The Rox bullpen went on to pitch 6 scoreless innings with the help from Bailey Hansen (Pacific), John Matthews (Kent State) and Brent Killam (Georgetown). A day after getting a save, Killam got the last out of the 10th and earned the win for St. Cloud.
Cameron Eden (California) made his first appearance and had the only RBI from either team today. The freshman had a single that tied the game in the 3rd inning.
Ringhofer added two singles in five plate appearances, and the very least put the ball in play to give the Rox a chance. He was the only STC player to have multiple hits.
