Game Keys - New Orleans sent 11 hitters to the plate in the first inning scoring 6 runs on Friday night as the Z's defeated the host Iowa Cubs 11-8 in front of 11,395 at Principal Park. New Orleans chased I-Cub starter Rich Hill out of the game, he worked two thirds of an inning allowed six runs on three hits and walked four while throwing 45 pitches. The Z's added three runs in the second inning and led 9-0. The Cubs picked up a run in the second and fourth inning of a starter Ruddy Lugo. Lugo worked seven innings and earned his fifth win, snapping a personal four game losing streak. The Z's added a pair of runs in seventh and Jose Valentin drilled a pinch hit home run in the ninth to give the Zephyrs a 12-2 lead. The incredible Iowa Cubs comeback would start in the bottom of the ninth with a Josh Kroeger solo home run off of Nate Field. The Cubs would rally scoring six runs but Tim McNab retired the final two batters he faced and New Orleans wins the game and splits the series.

Game Notes: Three of the top nine batting averages in the PCL this month belong to Zephyrs: Valentino Pascucci ranks 5th at .385, Michel Abreu ranks 7th at .368, and Argenis Reyes ranks 9th at .365. At .980, the Zephyrs are tied for the third-best fielding percentage in the PCL, behind Fresno and Omaha (both .981) ... The Z's have four errors in their last ten games, and 12 in 19 games this month. Argenis Reyes extended his hitting streak to nine games Friday night ... Reyes is batting (17x38) during the streak ... Reyes has hit safely in each of his last 15 road games, tied for the third-longest such streak in the PCL this season ... In the 14 games, Reyes is batting .466 (27x58). The Zephyrs announced that they will be accepting monetary donations to benefit the American Red Cross in Des Moines in order to assist Iowans affected by the recent flooding. During the Zephyrs' four-game homestand vs. Omaha that begins tomorrow, all fans that donate $5 or more will receive a free ticket to the July 10th game vs. Memphis. Coming Up: The Zephyrs open a four game homestand at Zephyr Field on Saturday night. The Omaha Royals on a 16 game road trip return to town. The Z's will start RH Brian Stokes (7-5, 4.00) and he matches up with Omaha LH Tyler Lumsden (2-7).
