June 11, 2006 - The New Orleans Zephyrs had their seven-game win steak snapped on Sunday, losing by a score of 7-5 to the visiting Nashville Sounds.
Nashville starting pitcher Dennis Sarfate (5-2) picks up a win in six innings of play. Sarfate allowed no runs on two hits and struck out eight batters. Reliever Alec Zumwalt got his third save of the year after striking out the final two batters of the game with runners in scoring position.
Anastacio Martinez (2-3) records the loss for the Zephyrs in his start. Martinez gave up six runs (four earned) on two hits. Martinez walked seven batters.
Down 7-0 in the game, the Zephyrs made in interesting in the ninth inning, as second baseman Bernie Castro drove in two runs. Pinch hitter Alberto Castillo and right fielder Henry Mateo also drove in one run each.
Nashville was led offensively by catcher Vinny Rottino, as he went 2-4 with two runs batted in.
Despite the loss, the Zephyrs win the series 3-1, and will welcome in the Iowa Cubs for a 7:00 PM CT game on Monday. Washington Nationals starting pitcher John Patterson will make a rehab start for the Zephyrs.
