
Beavers fall in series finale at Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Victor Moreno allowed just one run in six innings and Jeff Baker added a solo home run as the Sacramento River Cats defeated the Portland Beavers 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Raley Field.
Santiago Casilla (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win. Dewon Brazelton (0-3) suffered the loss for the Beavers, allowing two runs over six and a third innings.
Portland closed out a 2-7 road trip with the loss, but still won the season series against the River Cats, 9-7.
John Baker hit a solo shot to right field off Brazelton in the bottom of the second to get the River Cats on the board with a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers evened the score in the fifth after Manny Alexander reached base on a force out. Luke Carlin walked, then Bobby Hill drilled a single to right, scoring Alexander from second.
Brazelton hit Nathan Espy to lead off the bottom of the seventh, then Jason Perry hit an infield single. After Scott McClain bunted the runners over, Jeremy Brown hit a bloop single over Hill's head to score Espy from third.
The Beavers return to PGE Park tomorrow for a four-game series against Tucson. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: Justin Leone made just his fourth start of the season in right field for the Beavers ... Manny Alexander stole his fourth base of the season in the fifth inning ... Jack Cust was caught stealing in the second, his first stolen base attempt this season ... the Beavers also won the 2005 season series against the River Cats 9-7.
