Beavers get six-run tenth to beat River Cats

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Bobby Hill went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Portland Beavers rallied for six runs in the 10th inning to beat the Sacramento River Cats 8-2 on Saturday night at Raley Field.
After allowing the tying runs to score in the eighth, Beavers pitcher Cla Meredith (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the win.
Aquilino Lopez threw a scoreless 10th to close out the game, giving the Beavers (32-30) their second straight win.
After a one-out walk from Ben Johnson and a single from Justin Leone to lead off the 10th, the Beavers got RBI singles from Manny Alexander, Jason Hill, and Bobby Hill. Terrmel Sledge then reached on a fielding error, which allowed Bobby and Jason Hill to score. Paul McAnulty capped the rally by driving in David Matranga.
Tim Stauffer turned in a quality start, allowing two runs over seven and a third innings, while recording five strikeouts and walking four.
Meredith walked Nathan Espy to load the bases after replacing Stauffer in the eighth. With two outs, Jason Perry hit an opposite-field line drive, scoring Andrew Beattie and Hiram Bocachica to tie the game at 2-2.
The Beavers and the River Cats (31-31) finish their season series tomorrow at Raley Field at 1:05 p.m.
NOTES: The Beavers played their fourth extra-inning game in the last five games ... Meredith's eighth inning walk was just his second in 19.2 innings with the Beavers ... The six runs in the 10th inning ties a record for most runs in extra innings by the Beavers against the River Cats... Sacramento third baseman Hiram Bocachica's two errors led to four unearned runs.
